The Tiger in the Pond

Suppose the first time a tiger cub tries to drink
from a still pond, it sees in the pond another cub
staring at it. Fearful of this strange cub who lives
underwater, he moves a few feet along the shore,
but the underwater cub is there too. No matter
where he goes around the pond, the underwater
cub is there staring at him. Now, angry at this game,
he strikes a blow at the water and the image falls apart.
Finally, he is alone and can drink in peace.

Soon, the young tiger learns to ignore this cowardly
harmless underwater cub, but he missed forever the
chance to recognize himself.

You’re no different than that tiger, when it comes to
seeing the universe. You take for another your own face.
